Spider veins
Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are small, dilated blood vessels that appear on the surface of the skin. They are usually red, blue, or purple in color and often resemble spider webs or tree branches. Spider veins are commonly found on the legs, but they can also appear on the face, neck, and other parts of the body. The exact cause of spider veins is not fully understood, but they are often associated with heredity, aging, hormonal changes, pregnancy, obesity, and occupations that involve prolonged standing or sitting.
Treatment options for spider veins include:
-
Sclerotherapy: This is a procedure in which a solution is injected into the spider veins, causing them to collapse and disappear over time. This is a minimally invasive and effective treatment for spider veins.
-
Laser therapy: Laser therapy is another minimally invasive treatment option that uses focused laser energy to target and destroy spider veins.
-
Compression stockings: Wearing compression stockings can help improve blood flow and reduce the appearance of spider veins.
It is important to note that while these treatments can effectively treat spider veins, new spider veins may develop over time and may require additional treatment
Sclerotherapy Important features and how its done:
1.Clothing during surgery:
It is desirable to have comfortable clothes with you on the day of the operation. You must also have obtained a 70 Den, 16-21 mmHg Class I rhizomerium elastic stocking from a pharmacy with medical supplies, which stocking will be worn after the operation and its purpose is to reduce the inflammation and swelling that may be observed after the end of the operation
2.During the Procedure:
Hardening medicine will be injected with very small and fine needle injections into the vasculature with the help of special magnifying glasses and an infrared beam of light (Vivolight) which are important for locating the feeding vessels.
Depending on the case, additional treatment can be performed with an external laser beam or radio frequencies on the vasculature where the drug has been injected for a better double effective treatment and result.
Depending on the case, subcutaneous anesthesia can be injected during the operation, this not only has the effect of achieving analgesia but also leads to spasm of the vein which leads to the reduction of the amount of medicine needed, the increase of the distribution of the medicine to a greater extent in the skin that has pathological veins and reducing the possibility of complications from burns and hyperpigmentation of the skin.
The operation is often performed using cold air to further enhance analgesia and protect the skin from irritation and burns
3.What we need to know after the end of the operation:
On the patient's leg we may notice scratches, small bruises and redness in the area of injection of the medicine but this is in most cases within the scope of the treatment.
Inflammation of the vein where it has been closed with sclerotherapy with no foam is a normal response of the body to the treatment and expected and we can feel our vein under the skin as hard and painful to the pressure or it bothers when I walk but day by day it subsides and you may need help with analgesic-anti-inflammatory such as paracetamol, ibuprofen three times a day for 4 days after treatment
The elastic compression stocking and bandage should remain for 2 days after treatment and the stocking for another week.
We avoid contact with the sun and heat or other cosmetic procedures in the area for at least 10 days after the treatment.
We are supplied by a pharmacy that has a laboratory for mixing ointments 130 g of ointment consisting of 100 g of Bepanthol and 30 g of Fucicort lipid. It is applied to the treated area twice a day for 7 days.
Are there any side effects from the Treatment that I should be aware of?
Side effects during sclerotherapy are rare and in most cases the treatment is well tolerated by most patients, however they are never 0%, so we should be aware of them in order to recognize them in time and treat them immediately if needed or not we need not worry. In any case, we inform our center.
- Allergic reaction in the form of redness, burn, ulcer. Allergy to the hardening drug is rare but unfortunately there is no way to diagnose and prevent it in advance, for this reason the first session is usually a test session to check the skin and the patient's tolerance to the drug. We use mild and recognized hardeners with a low allergenic effect. If the allergy is observed, it needs treatment with moisturizing-cortisone creams, (Bepanthol) and the regional damage improves with time
- Hyperpigmentation of the skin in the area of the vein due to the dispersion of hemoglobin, a pigment that is naturally present in the blood and diffuses into the skin during Laser or Foam treatment. It usually subsides with time and with the help of whitening creams.
General features I need to know about my veins.
We always have to keep in mind and be aware that most of the time for varicose veins many repeated sessions are needed to get the expected cosmetic result.
The number of sessions that may be needed is unknown and varies from patient to patient because it depends on the extent and type of varicose veins and our personal expectations.
The general rule is that around 3-4 sessions over 6-8 weeks there should be a visible improvement in the treated areas of around 70%, progress with your permission will be monitored by photography.
In treated areas of skin, varicose veins rarely recur, but new varicose veins that appear in neighboring areas often require treatment.
The secretariat of our vascular surgery center will book you the next appointment for a recheck or for the next treatment if needed at least in 2 weeks for the same leg or one week for the contralateral leg after consultation with you.
